Summer is a great time to spend quality time with your pet outdoors, but sometimes it is hard to find the things to do with your pet. Purr-fect Pet Solutions values mental stimulation and regular exercise for your pet. With that being said, we have compiled a list of engaging summer activities that are fun for you and your pet!
Swimming is a great option for a hot summer day. Bring your dog to the local lake or beach and enjoy a summertime cool down. Local lakes include: Gull Lake, North Long Lake, South Long Lake, Bay Lake, Upper Cullen Lake, Middle Cullen Lake, Lower Cullen Lake, White Sand Lake, and the Whipple Lakes. Lum Park, Whipple Beach, and Gull Lake Recreational Area are the most common beaches in the area. We have to remember to supervise our pets when they’re spending time in the heat and in water! Make sure your pet is not left unsupervised, has lots of water, and even consider a life jacket for your doggo!
Brainerd, Minnesota has many options for bringing your dog on a hike. We have local trails, parks, and even a state park! Local trails include: Paul Bunyan State Trail, Cuyuna Lakes State Trail, Northland Arboretum, Mississippi River Paddle Route, Poor Farm Trail, and Gull Lake Nature Trail. Parks include: Kiwanis, which has trails and a dog park! Gregory Park, Rotary Riverside Park, Buffalo Hills Park, Lum Park, Bane Park, and O’Brien Park. We are also the home of the Crow Wing State Park! Picnics would also be a great options for a day at the park. You could also consider taking your dog camping. Local campgrounds include: Crow Wing Lake Campground, Crow Wing State Park Campground, Lum Park, and Gull Lake Recreation Area. Though not centered in Brainerd, Purr-fect Pet Solutions can not recommend Old Iron Camp enough, located on the edge of Ironton, Minnesota. Old Iron Camp offers firewood, fire ring, and a picnic table with each campsite. Old Iron is also perfectly located near the area’s best lakes, trails, shopping and variety of dining options. Enjoy the quaint and charming town of Ironton, Minnesota and bring your pup along for the fun!
Agility training is one of the best ways to provide stimulation for your furry friend. However, Brainerd, Minnesota does not offer many options for this. We do have instructors that offer classes for agility training. Another option would be to purchase the equipment and learn the ins and outs of agility training together, could be a great bonding experience!
Last one! Let’s be real. Lunch isn’t lunch without your dog watching every bite you take. Take your pup to lunch at a restaurant with outdoor or patio seating. Brainerd, Minnesota isn’t the most pet friendly area, but we do have restaurants that utilize their outdoor seating, offering pet parents to include their fur babies on yet another adventure.
We covered a few great outdoor activities to do with your pet! Furthermore, we would like to offer some indoor activities for the days that thunderstorms roll in or it is just far too hot. Starting off with movie night, this one is for the cats and other furry friends too! Snuggle up with the fur babies and watch a good movie, A Dog’s Journey purr-haps? Snatch your dog’s favorite toy and play an indoor game of fetch or tug-of-war, we can include the cats here too, suggesting a game of catch that laser! Teaching your pet’s new tricks is once again, a great way to stimulate their little minds. You can find some crazy tricks online to teach your pet, such as learning how to skateboard. Maybe you are looking for something a little more basic and would consider roll over, shake, or lay down. You could also contemplate pet crafts. With some paper, paint, and a paw print, you could make some cute and creative art!
We covered some great activities, both indoor and outdoor, for pet fun! We hope this article helps you find the best stimulating induced bonding experience for you and your pet. We ask that you remember pet safety in all activities, but especially heat safety during summer outdoor activities. Thank you for hanging out with us through this article and we will see you next Tuesday at 8:00 AM.
